Ready, Set, Rescue!
We recently had an adorable visitor to Pine Cay named Stella. We picked Stella up as puppy rescue and let her run free for a few days before sending her to her new family in Montreal. She ran, swam, ate and slept like a champ. After her adventure exploring on Pine Cay, Stella was hand delivered to her new home in Montreal by a volunteer puppy courier. You can volunteer to transfer a puppy out on your next visit to Turks & Caicos too!
Stella came from Potcake Place, a rescue based on Providenciales, Turks & Caicos, whose mission is “to reduce the number of homeless Potcakes on the island”. There are lots of puppies constantly that need socialization and adoption and Potcake Place is well known for their walking program. You can see tourists lined up outside their door in the morning to take a puppy to walk and love for the day. They are also set up to help you adopt your own to take home.
A great supporter and long time lover of potcakes is new author Rebecca Crow. Rebecca was inspired to write a children’s book in honor of her own lovable potcake. The story “Cake” is a real life account of her puppy adoption from the perspective of her son. Her books are in high demand, but we were able to secure some early to stock in our own gift shop here at The Meridian Club!

What is a Potcake?
Potcake is the name given to the dogs of the Bahamas and the Turks & Caicos Islands. It came about because the locals fed the caked remains of the cooking pot to the dogs.
